Over the past few weeks, Instagram has been dropping news left, right, and center when it comes to changes to the app in next few weeks and months. From the chronological feed returning to creators getting, even more, say into how we shop and buy online, here are the biggest things to keep in mind when it comes to Instagram in 2022.
Chronological and Suggested Content Feeds
Yes, it’s true! Instagram has announced that the chronological feed of years past is making its epic return.
But how will it return? While it hasn’t been fully announced or even rolled out, we’re going to bet it’ll be a toggle at the top of your home feed where you can switch between the feed you follow and your suggested feed.
Yes, this is exactly what TikTok has on their feed that has worked out so well for them. It seems that Instagram keeps just taking their pointers from the powerhouse of TikTok.
Now while at the moment people are rejoicing the return of the chronological feed, I can’t help but wonder (yes, I am taking Carrie Bradshaw’s trademark line, thank you) will people actually use it that often? How many people actually use the chronological feeds on Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok?

Creator Affiliate Program
Instagram’s native creator affiliate program is being rolled out to more people in 2022. If you don’t know what the program is, essentially content creators can earn commission payments for purchases they helped inspire to make on the app.

So if your favourite influencer inspired you to make a purchase of those Ugg Tazz mules making the rounds on IG (no? Just me?), then they will get some serious $$ for you making the purchase on the app.
Instagram also announced that they will be making “Creator Shops” available to a lot more users on the platform so more creators can get involved in making money for their followers’ purchases.
Even more focus on video content
As we’ve seen in 2021, video content is ESSENTIAL. If you’re not doing video content in the way of Reels, Stories, or IGTV (now: Instagram Video), then you’ll want to start rethinking your strategy and content for 2022. If you need some ideas, we got you.
As TikTok keeps continuing to surpass Instagram, IG continues to try new ways to get people to stay on their platform. And as they announced earlier this year, video content is what they will be focusing on the most when it comes to getting your content to reach new people.
We have a feeling that isn’t going to stop any time soon, especially if our recent feeds are any indication as to the future of IG (anyone else only seeing video content on their feed lately?).
